PREJUDICE, RACE, ETHNICITY, AND SOCIAL EXCLUSION
Prejudice
Prejudice is known as the preconceived opinion that is not
based on reason or experience or we can say that it, harm or injury that
results from some action or judgment. In philosophy, prejudice means the
incorrect or unjustified attitude towards an individual based on the
individual’s membership of a social group. Bias is very similar to prejudice
but it is not the same as prejudice. Biased usually refuses to accept that
there are other views and ideas than their own. Bias is not extreme as prejudice.
Race and ethnicity
Race and ethnicity are used to differentiate or categorize
certain sections of the community, population. In basic race refers to the physical
traits of the population and ethnicity refers to cultural identification. Race is mostly known as a mixture of physical and behavioral aspects. Ethnicity is
mostly related to the factors where we live, the culture we share. Race and ethnicity are
most often used interchangeably, but they point out different things. Race and
ethnicity are used to describe the diversity of human beings.
Racism
The oxford dictionary defines racism as the “Prejudice,
discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race
based on the belief that one’s race is superior”. This is not an ideological outlook
as liberalism, conservatism, and so forth. Racism is related to the term of
abuse
Racial diversity
Racial diversity is related to the idea that a relationship
exists between race and social experience. This means that a relationship
exists between knowledge and practices. Racial diversity in the workplaces will
minimize internal disputes and it will improve the accessibility to new and
diverse communities. This will enhance productivity in the workplace.
Social exclusion
Social exclusion refers to the “exclusion from the
prevailing social system and its rights and privileges, typically as a result
of poverty or the fact of belonging to a minority social group”. This happens
when a group of people or a particular area will suffer from a combination of
problems or a group of problems. These problems can be lower incomes,
unemployment, poor health conditions, etc. The social exclusion will lead to
higher rates of poverty, denied access to basic resources and market and public
services. These people will do hostile actions and it will affect the overall
community.
